Laid back day today in Hershey, PA. We went down to the Houlihan's on Chocolate Ave. (the Main Street in town) and had a wonderful outdoor lunch. I guess we've been dining out quite a bit, because even the kids made statements about how great our server was and then proceeded to inform us of what they thought was a proper tip.
After lunch, we headed over to Chocolate World -- which is Hershey's version of an interactive supermarket for Hershey products. There you can sit through a 3D/4D spectacular with Hershey characters, take a "It's a Small World" type ride through the chocolate making process, buy all kinds of Hershey paraphernalia, and then engorge on basically any kind of candy product Hershey makes.
A new activity they have is "Make Your Own Chocolate Bar". The kids got to don lab coats and hair nets and go into a Willie Wonka type world where they concocted their own specialty chocolate bar. They even got to create a specialty label for their creation.
Back to Herhseypark for a little night riding. We took the park to closing -- again in perfect weather. The place gets even better at night with the small town carnival feel accented by the many lights lining the roller coasters.
Another neat thing they do there is really ingrain the use of their products throughout the park. For instance, to determine what rides you are large enough to ride, you don't look at how many inches you are. Instead, you premeasure outside the park and determine what candy category you are and then choose accordingly. This year Chas & Sofia were both Twizzlers, Ileana and Tyner were both Reeses and Mommy and Daddy were Jolly Ranchers.
Ileana - Just shy of being a Hershey Bar!
Chas - Not quite a Jolly Rancher yet!
Sofia - Peace all my Twizzler peeps!
Tyner - Nice try - There are bigger coasters in your future.
